Where is she in the tree?
DNA Note
DNA testing of her descendants indicate a mtDNA Haplogroup of H1a3a. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is the DNA located in the mitochondria. It is passed from a mother to her children. Both men and women receive it from their mothers, but only women pass it down to their children. In our tree, Katharina passed it down to Barbara who passed it down to Barbara who passed it down to Lona, who passed it down to her children. Lona’s daughters passed it down to their children. So, the group was determined by DNA testing of one of Lona’s daughters and granddaughters.
H1a3a is a branch of mtDNA that is estimated to have started with a woman who lived between 2,200 and 5,500 years ago.
